National STEM/STEAM Day in 6B Art

Ms. Mullins' 6B grade Art students celebrated National STEM/STEAM Day! After watching a presentation of "Engineering in Art" from the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, 6B was challenged to create a Ferris Wheel, using craft sticks, wooden dowel and glue. The 4 groups had to problem-solve, especially with the axle as they discovered they had to leave an opening. They used geometry and science knowledge to make symmetrical sides, otherwise they discovered the wheel would not turn.
