Just a little information about our Saturday TMSCA competition trips:

1. We will stop at Bayer’s Kolonialwaren before leaving town.  Students may purchase items at their own expense.

2. The school provides student lunches.  At the place of competition, students will have the opportunity to purchase items from the snack bar at their own expense.

3. Students are allowed to bring electronic devices but they are responsible for them; the school nor sponsors will be responsible for forgotten, stolen or damaged electronics.

4. Dress is casual, students may wear jeans.

5. Home arrival varies.  I will try to contact you when we leave the place of competition and about 10-15 minutes before arriving home.

6. Permission slips to compete are due as stated on the information packet sent home. Check the permission slip for the due date.  Turning permission slips in on time is important due to deadlines for registration required by the hosting school.

7. If your child signs up for an event and does not show up, they will be required to repay the school $6 for each missed event.

8. All permission slips are attached to the packet sent home with your child.

9. Students must be attending practice to compete.

10. Students do not have to attend every meet.

11. Only 6th - 8th graders are able to qualify for the San Antonio State Meet.

12. Students must meet the required score to qualify for the state meet.

13.  Practice dates and times will be communicated after the holiday break.

Number Sense - Mondays 2:38-3:30 pm in Art room beginning on Monday, Jan.  8th - Coach Holly Mullins

Calculator - Wednesday 2:38-3:30 pm in Art room beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 10th - Coach Holly Mullins

Mathematics - Tuesdays 2:38 - 3:45 pm beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 9th - Coach Stephanie Krebs (Please talk to Mrs. Krebs if staying after school is a problem.  Meet in the library and Mrs. Krebs will take you to the practice room for the first few practices.)

Science - Tuesdays or Thursdays during lunch in the Science room beginning Tuesday, Jan. 9th, or Thursday, Jan. 11th - Coach Mrs. Otto

The Texas Math and Science Coaches' Association is an organization dedicated to improving and accelerating young minds through math and science competition.  The academic meets are held throughout the year offering tests in number sense, calculator applications, mathematics, and science.  It is a great way to improve your academic teams for UIL competition in the spring.  You are not limited to the number of students that can compete in TMSCA like you are in UIL.  This is a great way to get a lot of kids involved in academics!

At Muenster High School we set up certain guidelines that must be followed before one can compete at the state level.  The students must attend at least three meets, and meet a qualifying score in at least one of the four areas.  In addition to this, they must clock in at least 10 hours.

When a student qualifies for state, during their senior year they are eligible for a scholarship.  Therefore all seniors must compete in all four events. How they place at state ranks them for the top gun position.  The top six seniors will be awarded scholarships ranging from $600 to $1100! 

TMSCA enhances their classroom work and helps them in rigorous test taking situations such as TAKS, PSAT, SAT/ACT, or any AP tests.
