    dancing book     TAKE-HOME READERS

Soon your child will bring home his/her first take-home reader.  Please sit down with your child and listen to he/she read.  Discuss the story with your child as you read and at the end of the story, ask questions to check for comprehension. Your child needs to read for at least 15 minutes each night.  If one story does not make up the entire 15 minutes, start on another one.

Each night you will record what your child read in the Reminder Binder.  Please write down the page they started on and the page they ended.  That will help us all to keep track of their reading and the length of time it takes to complete each book.

If the homework is to read for Book It, please write down the name of the book your child read in the Reminder Binder.  If they are reading a chapter book over several days, please write the title each day they read from it.

Thank you for taking the time to practice reading with your child.  It makes a big difference in everything that they will do.  If you ever have any questions, do not hesitate to call or jot a note in the Reminder Binder.
