Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Scott Bicknell

Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year.  We are excited to see all the students back in our hallways!

I would like to remind us of a few things for this new school year.  Each and everyday in Muenster Independent School District, we are faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as difficult situations.  We identify these opportunities as defining moments.  Defining moments form us and help inform others about who we are and what we stand for.  The insight gained from embracing these moments provides us with the knowledge and expertise to make the right decisions and to move forward as a district.  Please take the time to see these opportunities.

As we continue to move forward as a school district, the following story provides a wonderful example of choice.  A young Native American man was talking with his grandfather.  The young man asked his grandfather, “What do you think about the situation of the world?”  The grandfather replied, “I feel like two wolves are fighting inside my heart.  One wolf is filled with anger and hatred, and the other wolf is filled with love, forgiveness and peace.”  The young man then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”  The grandfather then replied, “The one I choose to feed.”  As a school district and as individuals, we choose to work together as we meet our challenges positively, with hope, determination and great expectations.  We are dedicated to students and staff development, teacher quality, enhancing classroom support, and accelerating student achievement.  Please choose to keep these at the front of your thoughts when it comes to our district.

You have often heard it said, “be courageous”.  What does that actually mean?  Depending on the person and their situations, it can mean a variety of things.  In terms of Muenster ISD, I believe it means we defend our own even when it is uncomfortable to do so.  Courage is a characteristic of people, which is honorable in nature, but oftentimes not very popular.  We have the best staff in Region 11.  It will continue to be that, because I know that we support one another and also encourage one another to be the best possible teachers and support staff.  We are the best!  The reason we are the best is because Muenster ISD understands that we are here 100% for the students, and that is all that matters.

I would like to leave you with this thought for the school year.  Former U. S. Senate Chaplin Richard Halverson writes: “You can offer your ideas to people as bullets or as seeds.  You can shoot them or sow them.  Ideas used as bullets kill inspiration and motivation.  Ideas used as seeds take root, grow, and bear fruit in the life in which they are planted.  But there's a risk:  Once it becomes part of those in whom it's planted, you`ll probably get no credit for originating the idea.  But if you`re willing to do without the credit …. you'll reap a rich harvest.”  So the motto for this upcoming year is: Take the right approach for the 2022-2023 school year.
