Muenster ISD Campus Procedures Related to COVID-19
Printable PDF of Muenster ISD Campus Procedures (updated Jan. 22, 2021)
If a campus is notified that a student or staff member has a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19, the student or staff member will be required to stay home until the return to school criteria is met.
Refer to Covid-19 Protocol Flowchart (below).
Student or staff members exposed to a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 outside of school should stay home and contact the school for instructions on meeting the return to school criteria. District communication will be provided to the students/staff members who came in contact with a student or staff member with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis.
If a student or staff member has any of the following symptoms listed below, stay home, contact the school, monitor symptoms, and practice social distancing.

Covid-19 Symptoms
COVID-19 Symptoms

- Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
- Loss of taste or smell
- Cough
- Difficulty breathing
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Chills
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Shaking or exaggerated shivering
- Significant muscle pain or ache
- Diarrhea
- Nausea or vomiting
Best practice - staying home for 72 hours to monitor symptoms may be warranted.

Who is considered a close contact to someone with COVID-19?
For COVID-19, a close contact is anyone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes. An infected person can spread COVID-19 starting 48 hours (or 2 days) before the person had any symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19.
-
I had direct contact (household member, etc.) with someone who has COVID-19, and my COVID-19 test came back negative. Do I still need to quarantine for 14 days after I was last exposed?
Yes. You should still self-quarantine for 14 days since your last exposure. It can take up to 14 days after exposure to the virus for a person to develop COVID-19 symptoms. A negative result before the end of the 14-day quarantine period does not rule out possible infection. By self-quarantining for 14 days, you lower the chance of possibly exposing others to COVID-19.
-
What if I have been around someone who was identified as a close contact?
If you have been around someone who was identified as a close contact to a person with COVID-19, closely monitor yourself for any symptoms of COVID-19. You do not need to self-quarantine unless you develop symptoms or if the person identified as a close contact develops COVID-19.
-
When to start and end quarantine:
Scenario 1: Close contact with someone who has COVID-19---will not have further contact or interaction with the person while they are sick (e.g., co-worker, neighbor, or friend).
- Your last day of quarantine is 14 days from the date you had close contact.
Scenario 2: Close contact with someone who has COVID-19---live with the person but can avoid further close contact (e.g., roommate, family member), and that person has isolated by staying in a separate bedroom. I have had no close contact with the person since they isolated.
- Your last day of quarantine is 14 days from when the person with COVID-19 began home isolation.
Scenario 3: Under quarantine and had additional close contact with someone who has COVID-19. What if I end up having close contact with the person who is sick during my quarantine? Or What if another household member gets sick with COVID-19? Do I need to restart my quarantine?
- Yes. You will have to restart your quarantine from the last day you had close contact with anyone in your house who has COVID-19. Any time a new household member gets sick with COVID-19 and you had close contact, you will need to restart your quarantine.
Scenario 4: Live with someone who has COVID-19 and cannot avoid continued close contact. (e.g., providing direct care to the person who is sick, don’t have a separate bedroom to isolate the person who is sick, or live in close quarters where I am unable to keep a physical distance of 6 feet).
- You should avoid contact with others outside the home while the person is sick, and quarantine for 14 days after the person who has COVID-19 meets the criteria to end home isolation. ***Date the person with COVID-19 ends home isolation + 14 days = end of quarantine.

Return to Learn Screenings
- MISD will require teachers and staff to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before coming onto campus each day. The self-screening will include teachers and staff taking their own temperature. Teachers and staff must report to the school system if they themselves have COVID-19 symptoms or are lab confirmed with COVID-19, and, if so, they must remain off campus until they meet the criteria for re-entry as noted below. Additionally, they must report to the school system if they have had close contact with an individual who is lab-confirmed with COVID-19, as defined at the end of this document, and, if so, must remain off campus until the 14-day incubation period has passed.
-
Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school, on campus, if the child has COVID-19 symptoms or is lab-confirmed with COVID-19, and instead should opt to receive remote instruction until the below conditions for re-entry are met. Parents may also opt to have their students receive remote instruction if their child has had close contact with an individual who is lab-confirmed with COVID-19 until the 14-day incubation period has passed. MISD may consider screening students for COVID-19 as well. Screening is accomplished by asking questions by phone or other electronic methods and/or in person.
- At Muenster Elementary, when students are dropped off, they will go directly to their classrooms instead of congregating in the gym. Identifying Possible COVID-19 Cases on Campus, MISD will immediately separate any student who shows COVID-19 symptoms while at school until the student can be picked up by a parent or guardian. MISD will clean the areas used by the individual who shows COVID-19 symptoms while at school (student, teacher, or staff) as soon as is feasible. Students who report feeling feverish will be given an immediate temperature check to determine if they are symptomatic for COVID-19.
-
Before visitors are allowed on campuses, MISD must screen all visitors to determine if the visitors have COVID-19 symptoms or are lab-confirmed with COVID-19, and, if so, they must remain off campus until they meet the criteria for re-entry. MISD will screen to determine if visitors have had close contact with an individual who is lab-confirmed with COVID-19, and, if so, they must remain off campus until the 14-day incubation period has passed. When practical, screening questions could be supplemented with temperature checks of adults.
Muenster ISD will follow the latest CDC guidelines and TEA guidance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact MISD.
